Thank you for supporting the development of the Cadent ClimRate Go. Your feedback is essential in helping Cadent ensure this innovative device is accessible, effective, and truly fit for purpose. Most importantly, it will support Fifth Sense members and others living with smell disorders to feel safe, warm, and confident when using gas appliances at home.

In partnership with Fifth Sense, Cadent has used innovation funding to develop a battery-powered natural gas odorant detector – designed specifically to safeguard people with impaired or lost sense of smell. As with all innovations, it’s vital that this new product is easy to use and accessible for everyone, including those with sight impairments, English as a second language, or other communication needs.

What is it?

A compact, portable natural gas detector designed for domestic use. It will be available at an affordable price, offer a long battery life, and be compatible with future gas blends. While it’s especially valuable for people with smell disorders, the goal is to ensure it’s usable by anyone – because accessibility benefits us all.

Who is it for?

Everyone – but the initial focus is on customers with smell loss, not forgetting that people living with smell loss also have other accessibility needs such as sight, neurodiversity and communication needs.

Why does it matter?

People with a smell disorder can be at serious risk in the event of a gas leak, simply because they may not detect it. A battery-powered detector – rather than one requiring professional installation – offers flexibility, convenience, and peace of mind. It can also be taken with you when travelling, caring for others, or staying somewhere unfamiliar.

How can you help?

Join us in shaping the final stages of this project. Your input will help make sure the design, markings, and functionality are clear, accessible, and meaningful to all users.
