Event Details

This #LTSAT Support Group is for people who have never been able to smell and those who support them.

This online event, hosted by Fifth Sense & Fifth Sense volunteers, is for people who have never been able to smell because they were born without a sense of smell or have no memory of ever being able to smell as a child, whether or not they have a diagnosis.  This may be from birth (congenital anosmia) or acquired in early childhood.

It will provide those affected, and anyone supporting an adult or child who is affected, with an open, supportive and relaxed environment to learn more and share their thoughts and feelings about living without ever having had a sense of smell.

If you are the parent or carer of a child who has been recently diagnosed with congenital anosmia, or who you believe may have congenital anosmia, you are welcome to join us.  Many parents find this a helpful way to gain a deeper understanding of what their child is experiencing and how they can help.

Congenital Anosmia is "the total inability to smell from birth". People born with this are often totally unaware until after they start school when they begin to interact independently of their families. Some people might also believe they were born without a sense of smell, but it is acquired at an age before they have any smell memories.

Please note: We also host events for people who have had a sense of smell and have lost it, and for those who can smell but who are experiencing smell distortions.  If you are unsure whether or not this is the right event for you, please watch these short videos on our YouTube channel:
